4 Ways To Get Rid Of Dark Spots ASAP

Dark spots. Those pesky little things that are left on your skin after a breakout or after sun exposure. They’re also called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and can happen to anyone. The good news is, though, they’re pretty easy to treat, meaning that even though they do stick around for a while, you’re not stuck with them forever!

1. Don’t pick the zit

Which is always easier said than done! But when you pop a pimple, you’re often left with a dark spot, an inflamed red or brown mark which can stick around for months because of the skin trauma of popping it.

If you have a particularly inflamed and angry-looking zit, then your best bet is to treat it with hydrocortisone cream, which is an anti-inflammatory and you can get at any drugstore. Often pimple cream is filled with ingredients such as salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide which dry the spot out. Great for getting rid of it, not so great for hyperpigmentation.

2. Skin cleansing brush

Using a powered cleansing brush can not only help cleanse your skin, but it works away at the dead skin which sits at the top of your skin. By exfoliating the dead skin away, it makes it easier for your skin to absorb the products you use afterwards, such as the hydrocortisone cream.

3. Use a serum

Dark spots, whether caused by sun or spots of the past, can take quite a few weeks to fade. But using a brightening serum, with ingredients like vitamin C, niacinamide, kojic acid, and/or retinol, it can dramatically speed up the process. Brightening serums are also great for winter skin, when your skin tends to be a little dull and lifeless.

4. Wear SPF

If you only decide to follow one rule, make it this one. Wearing SPF 30 daily is a guideline recommended by dermatologists around the world. Not only does SPF prevent skin cancer, but it shields your skin from the harmful UV rays that are causing premature aging, too. Even if your dark spots are caused by pimple popping, UV damage will only make them worse. So look after your skin and wear SPF every day!

Final Thoughts

One of the most important things you can do is be patient, as dark spots will always fade eventually! By looking after your skin, exfoliating and wearing SPF not only will you speed up the process, but protect your skin in the future!
