How Often Should You Actually Wash Your Hair?

Firstly, should you double shampoo?

Double shampooing helps all hair types, as the first wash will remove any build up and the second will treat the hair. You’ll notice that the shampoo lathers better the second time round because there’s less grease. 

So, if you have dry hair

Usually when you have dry hair it’s easy to believe that you should avoid over washing, but you should actually wash your hair much more than you think. Throughout the day your hair will become more dehydrated because of wind, pollution and sun rays amongst other things, so it’s better to wash and condition regularly. Even if you simply rinse your hair and only use conditioner, it'll help. So, we recommend washing about two times a week with moisturizing shampoos.

If you have thinning/ weak hair

If you have oily hair 

Even with oily hair, the same rule applies. The less you wash your hair, the less you need to wash your hair! Although this is easier said than done as you'll have to struggle through greasy hair before your hair starts improving. To try the 'no poo' hair routine, dry shampoo will be your best friend. For those who don't, wash as often as you think necessary, just avoid overly moisturizing shampoos. 

If you have normal hair

If you have neither oily nor dry hair, you can wash it as often as needed with a mild shampoo.

If you have dandruff

When you wash your hair, leave your shampoo on for around 3 minutes after lightly massaging the shampoo so it will cleanse your scalp without irritating it. Don’t wash the ends either, and allow the shampoo to rinse through to the end so you don’t dry them out. Wash your hair as often if needed, but try and avoid washing every day. 

If you have brunette hair

If you have brunette hair you should wash it no more than twice a week. Supposedly, the reason brown hair goes a mousey brown is because shampooing too frequently dehydrates it, stripping the pigmentation away.
